Post-game Remarks

Men's Results:

Another come from behind win for IUPUI tonight. ORU had 'em and let it slip through their fingers down the stretch, losing 80-75.

Chicago State fought back in the 2nd half against Centenary and took the game to OT, where they outscored the Gents 15-7 to win 77-69.

UMKC held on against Oakland, winning 84-81 on a crucial mistake and 2 missed Carson 3's by the Golden Grizzlies.

Valpo had an uninspiring game tonight against the underachieving Leathernecks, turning on the heat with 3 minutes to go to break away from a close game and down Western Illinois 76-64 win at the ARC tonight.

Women's Results:

The Western Illinois-Valpo game was closer this time than it was in Macomb last month, but once again Valpo didn't have enough going to defeat the Westerwinds. Some key 3's were missed down the stretch. Mayella Kuikhoven was given the assignment to guard Teilane, but got 3 fouls in the first half against WIU guards driving the lane. Teilane, by the way, is not the thin weakling she may have been in prior years. It is not so easy to manhandle her anymore. WIU won 53-42, and now owns the tiebreakers on both Valpo and IUPUI.

Oakland easily handled UMKC 87-65. Chicago State broke away from Centenary in the 2nd half after leading by 2 at the half, winning 62-47.

Oral Roberts fought tooth and nail, but IUPUI was too much down the stretch and came up on top, 50-46. The Mabee Maniacs could be heard doing their ORU version of the "Hey" song quite clearly over the KCFO audio feed. We'll have to see if they can make themselves heard as well tonight for the men's game.

Southern Utah and Centenary are clearly fighting it out for the #8 seed, and their game at the Centrum will be pivotal game.

With Western Illinois at home the rest of the way except for one game, they are odds-on favorite to get the #1 seed. Valpo has a decent grip on the #3 seed, and will need to beat IUPUI in Indianapolis to really have a chance for the #2 seed.
