MEN'S BASKETBALL: SUU plays host to former Mid-Con foe Chicago State tonight at 7 p.m. before closing out 2006 on Saturday against Western State at 7:35 p.m. The Thunderbirds (8-5) have lost two straight games for the first time this season after falling at Weber State and Utah Valley State last week. The Thunderbirds had won five of six, including wins over both Weber and UVSC at home, before losing two straight on the road.

WOMEN'S BASKETBALL: SUU will say goodbye to 2006 on Saturday against Western State College, then welcome in 2007 on Tuesday against the University of San Diego.

Huffman scored a game-high 21 points for Brown (5-7), including the game's final six points, all from the free-throw line.

Xavier Price led Western Illinois (4-8) with 14 points. Chris Gonzales added 11.

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas -- Will Gant made two free throws with no time remaining to give Howard (6-8) a win over Western Illinois (4-9) in the consolation game of the Islander Classic.

Gant was fouled on a last-second 3-point attempt with the Bison trailing by one. He missed his first free throw, but made the next two to win the game.

Gant led Howard with 14 points.

Jerryck Owens-Murrey had a game-high 17 points and eight rebounds for the Leathernecks, while Sammy Hunter added 14 points, Troy Okeson 12 and Xavier Price 11.

CHARLESTON, Ill. -- Romain Martin scored 20 points and Mike Robinson added 17 points along with 10 rebounds as Eastern Illinois topped Western Illinois.

Martin and Robinson combined for seven 3-pointers for Eastern Illinois (5-8), accounting for all the Panthers' success from behind the arc. Robinson also went 6-for-6 from the free throw line.

Western Illinois (4-7) was led by 20 points from David Jackson, who was the team's only player to score more than eight points. The Leathernecks -- behind 34-25 at halftime -- were dismal from the field in the second half, hitting just 7-of-28 for 25 percent shooting.

Eastern Illinois had a 45-26 rebounding advantage for the game and finished at 50 percent shooting compared with a 33.3 percent overall performance by Western.

BASKETBALL: Southern Utah's men's basketball team plays its final game before Christmas Friday when the Thunderbirds visit Utah Valley State for a rematch of a game played in Cedar City, Nov. 29. LOS ANGELES -- Darren Collison had 15 points and Arron Afflalo added 14 to help UCLA beat Oakland, Mich.

Josh Shipp had 13 points, and Luc Richard Mbah a Moute added 12 rebounds for UCLA (9-0), which pulled away with an 18-0 run late in the first half and early in the second. Collison went 5-for-8 from the field and made all three of his free throws, and Afflalo shot 6-for-10 from the field.

Shawn Hopes had 17 points for the Grizzlies (6-7).
