Play-by-play notes second half

Valpo stormed out of the locker room scoring the first 5 points, 3 on Jake Diebler's 2nd 3 to lead 30-20. A 17-3 run overall. First media TO, 32-23 Valpo.

Derek Thomas tried a different lineup to start the 2nd half, but it didn't work. David Jackson picked up a foul or two guarding Caleb Green. WIU losing 35-20, almost 3 minutes gone. ORU apparently made a good defensive adjustment, moving Adam Liberty down low.

OU leading 40-26 over IUPUI.

Gents have closed the gap to 6. Jake Diebler hits ANOTHER 3! Gents turn it over again, Moussa hits a jumper, but Logan gets a dunk. Brandon hits a layup and gets fouled. Ya never like to give up a dunk, but Valpo is playing well on the offensive end and pretty good on the defensive end. 2nd media TO, Valpo 44 CC 33.

WIU is down 44-26, this sounds about what I expected from the Leathernecks on the Mabee Center floor.

OU is dominating on the Offensive boards and in TOs, leading 49-32.

Valpo is missing open shots again, and leads only by 6. The Gents could have cut it to 4, but they missed the front end of a 1 and 1. 3rd media TO, Valpo 46 CC 38, Moussa on the line for 2 shots.

The Jaguars have closed the lead to 10 only to have Shawn Hopes put back a rebound. 3rd media TO, OU 56 IUPUI 44.

Mike Jones says the Leathernecks shut down Tutt but failed to stop Caleb Green and that's why they trail by 19.

As has been all too typical this year, VU breaks down a bit down the stretch. Gents get a 3-pt play, only down by 2. Jake Diebler "was determined to get to the FT line" and did, hitting both.

Sure enough, Valpo bent down the stretch but didn't quite break, even withstanding a colassal no-call when Brandon McPherson got thrown down to the floor, immediately followed by a Valpo foul that allowed CC to tie the score from the line. But they missed both FTs, U was fouled on the rebound and hit both FTs. Final score: VU 66 CC 62.

ORU blew WIU out 65-46
Oakland also held off a furious charge by the Jaguars, winning 62-57
UMKC 86 Chicago State 78

Valpo hit 21-25 from the FT line, which is a nice change of pace.

That makes the first standings:

1. ORU 1-0
1. OU 1-0
1. VU 1-0
4. SUU 0-0
4. UMKC 0-0
6. CC 0-1
6. IUPUI 0-1
6. WIU 0-1
