IUPUI, meanwhhile, picked tonight to struggle, big-time. Greg Rakestraw was under the mistaken impression that Valpo could lock up the #1 seed for the Jags by beating UMKC. Maybe the team had the same bad karma going for it. Chicago State controlled the game, save for the middle of the 2nd half when IUPUI finally tied the score for first time since it was 15-15, but down the stretch, they just couldn't get it done this time. CSU wins, 74-66.
And of course, Valpo failed tot do what IUPUI thought was needed anyway, blowing two double-digit leads, thanks largely to Quinton Day's 30+ points, shooting lights out from the field, sometimes falling out of bounds. Berdiel tied the score with about 30 seconds to go by hitting a 3, so just like last year, Quinton Day hit's a 30 footer and UMKC wins, 73-70. UMKC clinches the #3 seed with this victory.
Oakland and SUU fought tooth and nail in Cedar City, with OU usually ahead. OU held on to win, 78-75.
