Oakland University: Fans who attended Oakland's game Saturday got a treat, and not just because they saw a dramatic, 85-84 overtime win over favorite Oral Roberts in the regular-season finale.

It was also the first bobblehead giveaway game in school history. The first 2,000 paying fans were given a bobbing figurine of coach Greg Kampe.

Oakland associate athletic director Jim Norton came up with the idea. Before the season, Norton -- responsible for marketing and promotions, among other duties -- approached about a dozen of Kampe's friends and asked them to chip in for the bobbleheads.

As the face of the program for 23 years, Kampe -- the Grizzlies' all-time leader with 377 victories -- was the natural choice.

"It was a nice thing to do for the university because it was a great advertising tool," Kampe said. "People came to the game. It sold the place out."

After the game, Kampe signed an autograph for every fan who wanted one, and he's still getting requests.

"I'm getting a lot of phone calls now, asking if they can bring it by and have it signed," he said. "I tell everyone yes."

Don't bother him now, though. He's prepping the Grizzlies for the Mid-Continent Conference tournament in Tulsa, Okla. If they win it all, they secure a spot in the NCAA tournament. The quest begins Saturday night against Western Illinois.
