PITTSBURGH (AP) — James Life didn’t miss a shot in scoring all 15 of his points in the first half and Massachusetts built leads of as many as 16 points before halftime in beating Oakland 65-56 on Friday.
Gary Forbes also scored 15 points for Massachusetts, with Stephane Lasme getting 11 points and 14 rebounds — or nine more rebounds than any Oakland player. Rashaun Freeman added 11 points.
Life was 6-of-6 in the first half, with three 3-pointers, as the Minutemen (2-0) surged to a 20-8 lead seven minutes into the game and were not pushed by Oakland (2-1) after that in the round-robin game of the Colonial Athletic Association Classic. Life missed both of his shots in the second half.
Oakland trailed by as many as 22 points at 51-29 midway though the second half, and got to within nine points in the fi nal minute only by going on an 11-0 run.
Shawn Hopes scored 17 points, Brandon Cassise had 13 and Derick Nelson scored 10 for Oakland, which plays Northeastern on Saturday.
