MACOMB, Ill. (AP) - David Nurse scored 19 points to lead Western Illinois to a 76-56 win over Waldorf in its season opener Friday.

James Washington added 17 points and David DuBois had 10 points for the Leathernecks (1-0).

Nurse, a sophomore who transferred to Western Illinois from Kansas City Community College, was 5-for-7 and Washington was 3-for-4 from 3-point range.

Western Illinois led 37-25 at the half. The Warriors came within eight points with 13:32 left, but the Leathernecks put together a 23-4 run to put the game out of reach.

Senior Cedric Davis led Waldorf with 14 points. Devin Banks and Evan Clasen each added nine points for the Warriors.
