1. Oakland and Centenary played 2 games on Saturday. Oakland went 2-0, Centenary 0-2 and were the first school eliminated. Other schools that played Saturday: Valpo 1-0, ORU 1-0, Southern Utah 0-1, Western Illinois 0-1.
2. UMKC and IUPUI played 2 games on Sunday. IUPUI went 2-0, UMKC 1-1. Valpo lost to go 1-1. ORU advanced to 2-0, while Western Illinois and Southern Utah became the second and third schools respectively to be eliminated. Thus, ORU and Oakland, the 2 schools most likely to sweep both tournaments, remained on track to do so.
3. The front row of seats behind each basket at the UMAC must remain empty due to fire code regulations, begging the question: why were they even put in?
4. The last time a 3 seed beat a 6 seed was 2000, when UMKC slipped barely by Chicago State, 62-61. 2001: #6 ORU 73 #3 YSU 70. 2002: #6 IUPUI 90 #3 Oakland 84. 2003: #6 Southern Utah 66 #3 Oakland 55. 2004: #6 Chicago State 70 #3 Centenary 54. 2005: #6 Chicago State 72 #3 Valpo 67. 2006: #6 Chicago State 75 #3 UMKC 66. 2007: #6 UMKC 84 #3 Valpo 76.
5. The last time the top 4 seeds advanced was in the 2000 Women's tournament when #4 Valpo played #1 Oakland and #3 Western Illinois played #2 Youngstown State. The 1999 tourney was the last Men's tournament to feature the top 4 seeds in the semifinal rounds with #4 Youngstown State playing #1 ORU and #3 Western Illinois playing #2 Valpo.
6. The greatest joy of having the VIP package is driving up the lane, passing by the VIP parking lot because the shortcut to that lot is coned off, driving all the way down and making a sharp U-turn past the attendents who treat you like you got lost and don't know where the VIP parking is.
